According to our reporter, army soldiers on Thursday tried to enter the northern areas of the town held by the terrorists in a bid to start the second phase of their operation.

Clashes were reported in different parts of the town as well as the surrounding areas. After heavy fighting, al-Akkari farm and Tal al-Sur at al-Qusayr countryside were freed and soldiers continued hunting the terrorists fled to al-Hamidiyeh district.

Tunnels used by the terrorists to move around and store weapons were uncovered in the western district of al-Qusayr.

Tens of explosive devices planted by the terrorists in homes and roads were dismantled by the army.

Early Thursday, army soldiers confronted with militants who were trying to ambush their camps and arrested one of the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front’s field commanders. 

The fighting for al-Qusayr, which straddles strategic supply routes important for the militants, started on Sunday after the army surrounded the area and successfully entered the town.

The commanding center of the al-Nusra Front was destroyed in the battle and army soldiers took control the center of the city and municipality building.

Army soldiers backed by Syrian volunteer fighters are strongly moving forward in their fight against the Western-backed terrorist gangs and militant groups throughout the war-torn country. 

As the government of Syria is struggling with a vast bloody insurgency, the US, Israel and their western allies have threatened President Bashar al-Assad of sending more arms to the militant groups if he does not leave his post.

On Wednesday, a US Senate panel votes in favor of a bill authorizing the government to provide foreign sponsored militants in Syria with lethal weapons and military training.
