Iraq’s military says troops, supported by Shiite militia, have pushed Islamic State (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL) group fighters out of the Fallujah neighborhood of Saqlawiya.
In a statement released on Saturday, the military said the Iraqi flag had been raised above the area.
Video from Saqlawiya, filmed on Saturday, showed Iraqi troops, along with fighters of the Popular Mobilization Forces parading through the district.
However, the main military push into the city center has been slow.
Heavy ISIS (Daesh) counterattacks and concerns for the tens of thousands of civilians trapped inside Fallujah have slowed Iraq’s elite counterterrorism troops, who are leading the push, AP reported.
