Footage released on Friday by a Shiite militia group aligned with the Iraqi government appeared to show distressed civilians, some wounded, fleeing Fallujah, shortly after they were struck by a bomb attack allegedly carried out by the Islamic State group (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL), Al-Alam News Network reports.
The bomb attack on a group of civilians on Friday killed two people and wounded three, Iraqi federal police and witnesses said.
The explosion struck the group of dozens of civilians who were attempting to flee the city through an agricultural neighborhood on its northern edge.
Released by the Popular Mobilization Forces, also known as Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi, the video also purportedly shows Shiite fighters distributing food to internally displaced people in the outskirts of Fallujah.
An Iraqi federal police official said IS was responsible for carrying out the attack, but that it was unclear if it was a suicide bombing or a booby-trapped explosive.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief the press.
Residents trapped inside Fallujah said ISIS has threatened those who try to escape with death.
Aid groups estimate some 50,000 civilians are trapped inside the city, which lies just west of the capital, Baghdad.
