UK special forces have been sent to Libya in a dramatic bid to form a new army that will wipe out ISIS insurgents in the region.
The discreet military deployment comes as ISIS, also known as Daesh, faces a global task force set to eradicate the sick terror group.
They will reportedly join US military counterparts in Misrata – roughly 180km from the Libyan capital Tripoli where they will provide “tactical training” to ground troops in the region.
Meanwhile Western officials have confirmed British troops are carrying out a mission in Libya, with local sources adding they are “in the background”.
Two analysts with close connections to Western governments also revealed that “low level training” of rebels has recently taken place.
The new deployment follows the UK committing to give the Libyan administration 1,000 troops last year. They joined Italian forces in a bid to bring stability to the region.
David Cameron backed the armed uprising of rebel militias that overthrew former Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
The result however was a civil war which has rumbled on ever since, leaving western officials focussed on finding a way to unite the country – and giving ISIS an opportunity to spread their tentacles to the African nation amid the ensuing chaos.
The terror group has been forced to focus more on the Libyan front after intense bombing in their de-facto base Syria has minimised their capabilities in the region.
Some estimates claim the terror cult has 5,000 troops in the unstable nation’s coastal town of Sirte.
Local intelligence claim Abu Omar al-Shishini, who recruited Brit executioner Jihadi John and was believed to have been killed in an air strike last year, is among their number, Express reported.
