The Syrian Army ground troops backed by Air Force’s offensives on ISIS strongholds in different parts of the Eastern province of Deir ez-Zor inflicted major losses on the militants, army sources announced on Thursday.
“Scores of the ISIS militants were killed or wounded in the Syrian army troops’ offensives near al-Baqaliyeh in the Northwestern countryside of Deir ez-Zor city and also in the village of al-Jafreh,” the sources said.
“The Syrian fighter jets, for their part, carried out several combat flights over the ISIS concentration centers near the village of Ayyash and the town of Hosseiniyeh, which claimed the lives of many terrorists,” they further added.
The Syria armed forces have been heavily pounding the ISIS positions across the province in recent weeks.
The army announced earlier today that its troops have repelled ISIS’s large-scale offensive on government forces’ defense lines near the strategic airbase of Deir ez-Zor, East of Syria.
“The ISIS launched a powerful assault on the Deir ez-Zor Military Airport after struggling to advance at the 137th Artillery Brigade’s headquarters outside the city’s walls,” the army said.
“The ISIS struck the Syrian army’s defensive positions from two different axes in order to spread out the pro-government forces and weaken their defenses, but the Syrian defenders of the airbase thwarted the attacks,” the army added.
“The first axis the ISIS terrorists attacked on this morning was the village of al-Jafreh, which is situated at the Southeastern perimeter of the airbase,” the army went on to say.
The army also said that the ISIS terrorists also attempted to advance from the Southern side of the airport.
“Despite the large assault, there have been no reported advances by the ISIS thus far,” the army pointed out; FNA reported.
