Rouhani: New Horizons Open after Nuclear Talks

Rouhani: New Horizons Open after Nuclear Talks
Tue Jul 14, 2015 15:42:18

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday referred to the dispute over the country's nuclear energy program as an "unnecessary crisis", the resolution of which would bring about new opportunities.

The successful conclusion of nuclear talks shows that "constructive engagement works," Rouhani said in a post in his social network account.

"With this unnecessary crisis resolved, new horizons emerge with a focus on shared challenges," the Iranian president added.

In an earlier post, Rouhani had announced that Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have agreed to accelerate cooperation with the aim of fully resolving all prior issues.

His remarks came after Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano said on Tuesday that a "roadmap" has been signed between the IAEA and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi to clarify the outstanding past and present issues.

According to Amano, the roadmap calls for the IAEA, with Iran's cooperation, to make an assessment of issues relating to possible military dimensions (PMD) of the Islamic Republic's nuclear energy program by the end of 2015.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) concluded more than two weeks of talks over Tehran's nuclear program in Vienna on Tuesday, in what a senior Iranian lawmaker explained as "successful".

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini, who has been coordinating diplomacy with Iran on behalf of the six powers, are going to hold a joint press conference to read a statement on the results of the marathon talks.
