President Hassan Rouhani has said that processes related to non-oil exports and foreign investment should be streamlined in a bid to accelerate the economic development programs, Al-Alam News Network reports.
To this end, non-oil exports via free trade zones and the private sector should be boosted, he added.
Rouhani made the remarks in a meeting with governor general of provinces and deputy ministers late on Thursday, Tehran Times reported.
He put the priority on providing support to industrial, agricultural, and tourism sectors to help materialize the economic development goals.
On June 24, Rouhani said special attention should be paid for supporting small and medium-sized enterprises to help the national economy emerge from recession.
In a meeting with national exemplary entrepreneurs, Rouhani said that the administration will pay special attention to improve the business environment, streamline customs affairs, and modify tax and social welfare laws.
Iran exported 25.061 million tons of non-oil products, worth $10.867 billion, in spring, which corresponds to the first quarter of the Iranian calendar year, according to the Iran Customs Administration.
Iran has set a target of $77.5 billion in non-oil exports for the current Iranian calendar year.
The Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran has announced that some $3 billion of foreign direct investment (FDI) plans have been approved in spring.
Iran’s total FDI stood at $2.105 billion in 2014, according to a recent report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
