Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet Iran's newly elected President Hassan Rohani for the first time in Kyrgyzstan in September, Seyyed Mahmoud-Reza Sajjadi told a news conference on Wednesday.
Responding to reports over Putin-Rohani meeting in Iran in August, Sajjadi noted that these reports are false, and that Putin's first talks with Rohani would be on the sidelines of a summit of the six-nation Shanghai Cooperation Organization in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, on September 13.
Russian and Iranian media reported last week that the Russian President would go to Iran in August for talks with Hassan Rohani on Tehran's nuclear program.
Western diplomats say the world powers will have to wait for a new government to be formed in Iran before they can discuss a date for a new round of talks.
"Clearly, let the new Iranian government settle in well. There will be a new government formed. But we are ready for talks anyway," Sajjadi said.
Iran’s president-elect Hassan Rohani has recently said the West should turn toward “serious and real negotiations instead of pressure” for making progress on country’s nuclear program.
Rohani won Iran's June 14 presidential election with 50.7 percent of a total of 36,704,156 ballots. Voter turnout in the election was 72.7 percent.
