"Mr. Rohani will take office in early August. It is true that he is talking about the need to look for a solution to the nuclear problem in Iran more actively and creatively. We welcome this," Lavrov told Rossiya-24 news television channel on Thursday.
 

The US, the Israeli regime and some of their allies falsely claim that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with Washington and the European Union using the unfounded claim as a pretext to impose illegal sanctions on Iran.

Tehran strongly rejects the allegation over its nuclear energy activities, maintaining that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

The Russian foreign minister further confirmed that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is scheduled to participate in the 2nd Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Moscow in early July.

"This will probably be the last contact with Mr. Ahmadinejad in his capacity as Iranian president," Lavrov said.

He added that Moscow "expects the centuries-long traditions of neighborliness with our Iranian partners to continue."

The 2nd GECF will be held in Moscow two years after its first edition in the Qatari capital, Doha. It will provide the GECF countries with an opportunity to strengthen mutual cooperation as well as to promote discussions at the highest level on the gas market and the gas industry.
