Syrian Ambassador to Tehran Adnan Mahmoud says the country’s Prime Minister Wael Nader Al-Halqi will participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Hassan Rohani as the new president.
Mahmoud said on Saturday that the Syrian premier will travel to Tehran, as the head of a high-ranking delegation to attend Rohani’s inauguration ceremony.
Rohani’s swearing-in is scheduled to be held on August 4, one day after his endorsement by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Other high ranking foreign officials including Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Indian Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid, Chairman of Russian State Duma Sergei Naryshkin and South African Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane will participate in the inauguration ceremony.
The Syrian envoy added that al-Halqi will hold talks with Ayatollah Khamenei and senior Iranian officials in order to strengthen relations between the two countries on the sidelines of the event.
Rohani won the June 14 presidential election with 50.7 percent of a total of 36,704,156 ballots. Voter turnout in the election was 72.7 percent.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Araqchi said on Tuesday that leaders and officials from across the world, except for the United States and Israel, have been invited to Rohani’s inauguration event.
