One Lebanese citizen has been killed in clashes between Takfiri Salafists in Lebanon’s Sidon and some of the southern city’s residents, al-Alam reports.
Some Sidon residents clashed with Salafists loyal to Ahmad al-Assir, during which at least one civilian was shot dead, al-Alam correspondent reported on Tuesday.
The Lebanese army has dispatched a unit to Sidon to help control the situation, our correspondent said.
Salafist leader Ahmad al-Assir has announced previously that he intends to form a “resistance brigade” in Sidon.
In November 2012, he claimed he is forming his armed group to fight against the Israeli regime which has always been a threat to people living in southern Lebanon, but he has also been making offensive rhetoric against Hezbollah.
