At least 17 terrorists have surrendered to the Syrian army as soldiers pushed deeper into terrorists hideouts in the flashpoint town of al-Qusayr, Al-Alam reports.

Al-Alam correspondent accompyning the Syrian forces in their battle for Qusayr reported that heavy fighting continued around the northern areas of the town with the army moving forward from south, east and west sides to recapture areas occupied by terrorist groups.

The Syrian army managed to infiltrate Dabaa airport from the northwest, and now fighting is taking place inside the airport after they broke the rebel defence lines, an army source told Al-Alam.

According to activists elite troops from the army led the attack.

The former military airport lies just outside Qusayr on the only road north of the town.

Suburbs of the capital Damascus were also scene of fierce clashes between Syrian soldiers and armed terror groups.

Following the fighting, twelve main centers used as commanding base for terrorist groups in the Zeinabiya district were captured by the army.

The fighting for al-Qusayr, which straddles strategic supply routes important for the terrorists, started on Sunday after the army surrounded the area and successfully entered the town.

The command center of the al-Nusra Front has been destroyed in the battle and the army has taken control over the city center and municipality building.

Syrian soldiers, backed by volunteer fighters, are moving forward in their fight against Western-backed terrorist gangs and terror groups throughout the war-torn country.

With the government struggling with a bloody insurgency, the US, Israel and their Western allies have threatened to send more arms to terrorists if President Bashar al-Assad does not leave.

On Wednesday, a US Senate committee voted in favor of a bill, authorizing the government to provide foreign-sponsored terrorists in Syria with lethal weapons and military training.
