Syrian army tightens grip on rebels in Qusayr

Syrian army has tightened the siege of strategic western city of al-Qusayr, paving the ground to start the second phase of mop-up operation.

The Syrian security forces have entered the edge of the northern quarter of Qusayr city, to start their mission as part of the second stage of the Syrian military operation in this city.


The army also started mop-up operation in all buildings near the city’s train station which was considered as the main stronghold of rebel groups in this strategic city. They also entered the al-Zahoori school and seized the control of this school which was captured by militants several days ago.


Syrian Army has successfully concluded the first phase of its operation which includes creation of connection between northern areas.


According to reports from the city, an unknown number of security agents from different foreign countries have been detained or killed during the operation.

 

Syrian forces have inflicted major losses on the militants in Qusayr, destroying their weaponry and equipment.

 

The Syrian army has also found several caches of weapons, mostly containing Israeli-made ammunition.

 

Qusayr, which is located in the central province of Homs, has been the scene of fierce clashes between Syrian forces and militants over the past few days.
