Army soldiers also battled with militants in al-Qusayr, Homs province and tightened their grip over their hideouts. The army hopes to clear the area of terrorists in the coming days, al-Alam correspondent reported on Sunday.

Elsewhere, heavy fighting erupted between army soldiers and militants in the suburbs of Damascus.

In order to prevent the terrorists from entering residential areas, units of armed forces were deployed around the Yarmouk Camp, in the suburb of Damascus.

There were reports of fighting around the camp in which several militant were killed and others were pushed away from the camp.

In December 2012, there was fierce fighting in Yarmouk Camp which is home to the biggest community of Palestinian refugees in Syria.

“We will continue our operations in this area and hopefully bring it under complete control in the next few days,” an army officer told al-Alam correspondent.

Syria has been struggling with a US-backed insurgency which began in March 2011 as a protesting movement but turned to be a cover for terrorist groups including al-Qaeda and al-Nusra Front.
