Syrian army continues to hunt foreign terrorists and militant groups in different parts of the country as it advances in fighting against militants and freeing occupied towns and villages.

According to Al-Alam reporter in Syria, army soldiers battled militants who tried to infiltrate Homs province late on Saturday, killing several of them, among which were terrorists with Jordanian, Algerian and Lebanese nationals.

Militants fighting against the government of Syria are frequently identified with foreign nationalities.

Syria has been struggling with a Western-backed insurgency which began in March 2011 as a protest movement but turned to become a cover for terrorist groups including al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front.

Syrian government has repeatedly said that the deadly insurgency is being orchestrated from outside the country.

Damascus says the West and its regional allies, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, are supporting the militants.

On April, The European Union's counter-terrorism coordinator said at least 500 Europeans were fighting along with the foreign-backed militants against Syria. Britain, Ireland and France were among the EU countries to have the highest numbers of militants in Syria, according to the report.
