Major General Ismail al-Mahlawi, the head of the Anbar Operations Command, told Arabic-language al-Sumaria television network on Tuesday that Iraqi forces established full control over Jazirah Hit region, which lies north of the city of Hit and about 140 kilometers (85 miles) west of the capital Baghdad, after Daesh members did not resist and fled away from the area.

Mahlawi added that Iraqi army artillery units and the so-called US-led coalition backed government forces in the operation to recapture Jazirah Hit.

Separately, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) spokesman in Mosul, Ghias Surchi, said US-led military aircraft struck a workshop used for making improvised explosive devices near Bash Tapia Castle on the western outskirts of the militant-held city late on Monday, causing a huge blaze. Six Daesh Takfiris were reportedly killed in the airstrike.

US-led fighter jets also pounded another bomb-making workshop in the eastern sector of Mosul.

Additionally, Iraqi soldiers engaged ISIS members in Anah town of Anbar Province, killing 17 terrorists in the process.

Elsewhere in the town of al-Ubaidi, government forces destroyed a bomb-making workshop as well as a fuel station belonging to Takfiri militants.

In another development, a child lost his life and nine other people sustained injuries when a roadside bomb targeted civilians fleeing from the city of Hawija in the northern province of Kirkuk.

Gruesome violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh terrorists mounted an offensive there more than two years ago, and took control of portions of Iraqi territory.

Iraqi army soldiers and fighters from allied Popular Mobilization Units are trying to win back militant-held regions in joint operations, Press TV reported.
