The Polish government wants to turn the hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees trying to settle in Europe into an army so that they can 'liberate' their homeland.
The suggestion came from the Polish Foreign Minister, Witold Waszczykowski, who told the country's public broadcaster that it would be a useful way for Syrians to gain employment.
He said: "Tens of thousands of young men are now in our country. They can go to fight to liberate their country with our help."
Poland's newly elected right-wing government has been vociferous in its opposition to Europe taking in any more refugees from Syria and other parts of the Middle East, especially after the Paris terrorist attacks last Friday which killed at least 129 people.
Earlier this week, the country's incoming European Affairs Minister, Konrad Szymanski, said in the wake of the tragic events in Paris it was not "politically possible" for Europe to continue to house Syrian refugees.
