Spokesman: Iran believes in united, integrated, democratic Spain

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Thursday that Iran insists on its principle stances and believes in an united, integrated and democratic Spain; wants stability, tranquility, national solidarity and respect for Spain's Constitution.

 

(irna) -- According to the report of Foreign Ministry Media Department, Qasemi pointed to the developments in Catalonia region of Spain, and said that Iran underlines necessity to obey rule of law, avoiding violence and following up demands through peaceful means and law.
 
Concerning some unrest in Catalonia province of Spain, Qasemi said that Spain is one of the important political-economic partners of Iran in Europe, so Iran is following up carefully developments in that country.
 
Catalonia is an autonomous region with 7.523 million populations in northeast of Spain, which wants to be independent from central government.
 
A referendum was held in October 1, 2017 by Catalonia, which was declared unlawful by Spain Constitution and Court of Constitution suspend it in September 7, but Catalonia government said the court verdict is not valid.
 
In the referendum 90 percent of voters cast their ballots in favor of independence.
