The United States Department of Defense released footage on Monday (August 15) that showed coalition air strikes on Islamic State (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL / IS) targets in Syria.
The strikes were conducted on July 21 on Islamic State fighting positions near Manbij, Syria, the Combined Joint Task Force said.
US-backed forces have seized full control of the northern Syrian city of Manbij near the Turkish border after the last remaining Islamic State (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL / IS) fighters, who had been using civilians as human shields, left, a spokesman for the group said August 12.
The operation, in which US Special Forces played a significant role, marks the most ambitious advance by a group allied to Washington in Syria since the United States launched its military campaign against Islamic State (ISIS / Daesh / ISIL / IS) two years ago.
US officials have said that completion of the Manbij operation would create the conditions to move on the militant group’s de facto capital of Raqqa.
