More than one million Iraqi civilians are expected to be displaced due to the upcoming Mosul offensive that is being launched by the Iraqi Armed Forces in the coming weeks, the International Red Cross said on Friday.

With a large Iraqi force mobilizing in the southern countryside of the Nineveh Governorate, the villages that have been relatively untouched during Mosul War will now be at the forefront of this offensive to liberate Mosul.

Despite the risk of civilian displacement, the Iraqi Armed Forces will go through with this offensive because allowing the Islamic State (ISIS, ISIL, IS and Daesh) to remain untouched in Mosul would only manifest into a much bigger problem in northwest Iraq.

The Iraqi Armed Forces will first turn their attention to the key town of Al-Shirqat, where the Islamic State is attempting obstruct civilians from the battle-zone.
