Four people have been confirmed killed in severe flooding that has hit Germany’s Lower Bavaria region, sweeping through the towns of Simbach am Inn and Triftern.

Several have been reported missing after the waters hit the area on Wednesday.

As dawn broke, residents could be seen clearing up damage, while in Trifern, the local church clock tower had stopped at the time the floods hit the night before.

The German state of Bavaria is promising quick financial help to residents in areas near the Austrian border hit by the flooding this week.

While the waters have receded and disaster relief crews were on the scene helping to clear the wreckage, they were also helping to prepare for more possible flooding after warnings of more storms to come.
