Forces loyal to Misrata on Monday continued to fight Islamic state group (ISIS) fighters east of the city, after ISIS (Daesh / ISIL) militants advanced from their Sirte stronghold.
Misrata forces pushed ISIS group militants back towards Sirte, supported by airstrikes carried out by Libyan Air Forces.
Footage released by the Misrata Air Base Media Office shows fighter jets carrying out airstrikes on militant positions in Sirte and east of Misrata. The Misrata forces comprise of militias from the city who are loyal to the new UN-backed Government of National Accord in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.
The airstrikes took place on the same day that the United States and other world powers said they would supply Libya's internationally recognized government with weapons to counter the Islamic State and other militant groups gaining footholds in the country's lawless regions.
Libya descended into chaos after the toppling and death of Moammar Gaddafi five years ago and soon turned into a battleground of rival militias battling for powers, AP reported.
