The Russian and Syrian warplanes intensified their joint air raids on ISIS positions across the key city of Palmyra and its suburbs, and took a heavy toll from the terrorist group on Wednesday.
“The air raids destroyed the militant group's positions in several districts in the city of Palmyra (Tadmur) in the Southeastern parts of Homs province, killing and wounding a number of militants,” informed military sources said.
According to one report by a source on the ground, the aerial operation then extended to as-Sawwanah and al-Bayarat areas near the city of Palmyra and Syrian jets and their allies bombarded the fortified positions of ISIS there.
The sources added that also the Syrian artillery units heavily pounded the militants’ positions in the oil-rich region of Jezl, destroying the terrorists' military hardware and annihilating some of them.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Syrian Army troops repelled the ISIS attacks on the government forces' positions in the Eastern and Southeastern parts of Homs province, and inflicted a heavy death toll on the terrorists.
The ISIS attempts to prevail over the strongholds of the government forces in al-Maqale’a (quarries), Thaniyeh al-Rajmeh and Dhuhour al-Hayyal in Palmyra countryside were thwarted by the Syrian army.
The ISIS left behind tens of wounded and injured members and fled the battlefield under the heavy fire of the Syria government forces, FNA reported.
