Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian voiced concern over the political situation in Bahrain, and called on the Manama government to hold talks with opposition groups.
"The political situation in Bahrain is worrying," Amir Abdollahian told reporters in Moscow late Tuesday.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister, meantime, reiterated that the Bahraini dissidents are the most democratic dissidents and Tehran encourages the Bahraini government to get engaged in political talks with them.
Amir Abdollahian also voiced Iran's dissatisfaction at the prolonged arrest of Bahraini senior cleric Sheikh Ali Salman, and said, "We are concerned about the ongoing violation of the human rights situation in Bahrain."
Anti-government protesters have been holding peaceful demonstrations across Bahrain since mid-February 2011, calling for an end to the al-Khalifa dynasty.
Violence against the defenseless people escalated after a Saudi-led conglomerate of police, security and military forces from the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) member states - Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar - were dispatched to the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom on March 2011, to help Manama crack down on peaceful protestors.
So far, hundreds of protesters have been killed, hundreds more have gone missing and thousands of others have been injured and arrested; FNA reported.
