A Syrian opposition politician underlined that the Russian government will continue supporting President Bashar Assad's government, FNA reports.

"Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reiterated that his country's stances have not changed and Moscow will continue supporting the legitimacy of President Assad's government that has been achieved through the ballot box," Noufel Noufel, the secretary-general of Syria's Democratic Vanguard Party (Al-Talia'a Democratic Party), told FNA on Wednesday.

He underlined that the pro-West militant groups fighting against the Syrian government are seeking to stir chaos in Syria to fulfill the western intelligence services' orders.

Noufel reiterated that Russia's agreement with the UN peace plan for Syria does not mean that Moscow's stance on Assad's government has changed; it, rather, means that supporters of Syria back up conditional political solutions to the Syrian crisis.

On June 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin had confirmed in a telephone conversation with US President Barack Obama Russia’s position on settling the crisis in Syria with participation of President Bashar Assad.

Meantime, A Russian political expert disclosed that senior officials from Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan and Egypt are highly likely to visit Moscow next week to discuss the crisis in Syria.

Yury Barmin, a political analyst of Russia Direct Research Institute, said that the concurrence of the visits by senior officials from Iran and other regional countries to Moscow has given rise to speculations that they might take part in multilateral talks on regional crises.

The Russian media had reported that Saudi King Salman would travel to Moscow on August 25.

The Arabic-language Cairo-based Al-Ahram newspaper also wrote that Egyptian President Abdul Fatah al-Sissi will also travel to Russia next Wednesday.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir also visited Moscow last week to discuss Syria with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

During talks with al-Jubeir, Lavrov reiterated that Russia will not accept that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to be put aside from the peace talks in the war-stricken country.

The Russian foreign minister, however, said that Moscow and Riyadh had agreed on practical steps to facilitate the political process in Syria.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif was also in Moscow just last week.
