Iran-America Rapprochement: A Bridge Too Far

Iran-America Rapprochement: A Bridge Too Far

The United States should stop preparing to reopen its embassy in Iran, as there is no dramatic thawing of relations between the two regional rivals, Fars News Agency reports.

For obvious reasons, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei holds that Iran will remain closed to US influence and continue to oppose its violent policies in the Middle East.

True, Ayatollah Khamenei gave President Hassan Rouhani crucial political cover to pursue nuclear talks with the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China, but that’s all really. The Vienna accord is purely nuclear. It does in no way mean Tehran will now allow Washington to make economic, political or cultural inroads into the Islamic Republic.

To quote him: “They thought this deal - and it is not clear if it will be passed in Iran or in America - will open up Iran to their influence. We blocked this path and will definitely block it in the future. We won't allow American political, economic or cultural influence in Iran.”

Obviously, Iranians still don't trust Washington, which, by the way, has made no secret of its enmity toward Tehran. So the message is this:

- Even if the nuclear issue is successfully resolved, Iran will never end its legitimate struggle against the hegemonic powers. As maintained by Ayatollah Khamenei, saying talk that American influences would pour into the country on a wave of positive feelings over the nuclear deal is nothing more than a “hollow fantasy.”

- Tehran and Washington will remain locked over the ongoing wars of deceit in Iraq, Syria and Yemen. This is because Tehran supports the national resistance movements while Washington and its vassals support Takfiri extremists and ISIL proxy forces.

- Iran will continue to support its allies in the region. There is no such thing as a conflict between Shia and Sunni Muslims, but a series of “political wars” instigated by the United States and its allies. It’s all about creating discourse and exerting influence.

- The War Party and its cohorts have no honorable intentions in the region, where they have supplied arms, security equipment and training to terrorist groups that have committed crimes against humanity. The minimal expectation is to disintegrate and occupy sovereign nations as colonies, and maintain the regional status quo. It's a good thing, especially when there's also a lot of oil out there the US needs!

- This tells why American fighter jets, drones and tanks are being used against anti-ISIL fighters and civilian populations in Iraq and Syria. Increasingly, the destructive role the US has taken in Yemen is equally the role of those Anglo-American corporates which refuse to give up the privileges and pleasures that come from the immense profits of regional arms race, divide and conquer policy, and state-sponsored terrorism…

It is against the backdrop of such utter depravity that Ayatollah Khamenei says a thawing in relations between Tehran and Washington is a bridge too far.

Lest there be any doubt, the regime changers will continue to maintain their position of depravity AND disparity (economic-military supremacy) throughout the region. They will continue to dispense with international law, and they will always cease to talk about “vague and unreal objectives” such as regional peace and security, human rights, freedom, and democratization. That's what's “great” about America right now.
