Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif voiced concern over the spread of extremism and terrorism across the globe, particularly in the Middle East, and urged the world states and international bodies to do their best to target the roots of terrorist groups, Al-Alam News Network reports.

“The extremism is the most serious threat of the region and Iran is ready to cooperate to confront his threat,” Zarif said in a meeting with visiting German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel in Tehran on Monday.

The Iranian foreign minister noted that all regional countries should get united in the fight against the ISIL and al-Qaeda terrorist groups.

The German vice chancellor, for his part, voiced his pleasure in his visit to Tehran, and called for the expansion of mutual cooperation, especially in the economic field.
