A senior Iranian commander says the Islamic Republic will test new air defense systems during a massive naval maneuver later in December.

Commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili said on Tuesday that the radar and missile systems would be unveiled during “Velayat 93” naval drills in the country’s southern waters.

Iran’s naval forces, the Army’s Air Force and units of Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) will stage the major drills.

The military exercises aim to convey Iran’s message of peace and friendship to regional countries.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and has attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

Iran has repeatedly assured other nations that its military might is based on the country’s defense doctrine of deterrence.
