On Tuesday, seven Syrian people lost their lives and 30 others suffered injuries after mortar shells fired by militants hit Saadallah al-Jaberi Square and al-Jamiliyeh neighborhoods in the city of Aleppo, the official SANA news agency reported.
According to the report, the attack also caused material damage to the areas.
Militants also targeted various residential areas in the capital, Damascus. In one of the attacks, three mortar shells fired by the militants fell around al-Najmeh Square, killing a Lebanese man and injuring 21 others. Nine people were also wounded after a shell smashed into a house in al-Qassaa area. Mortars also injured six more Syrian citizens in the al-Shalaan area.
Elsewhere, in the city of Mhardeh, located in Syria’s west-central Hama Province, three mortar shells fired by the militants injured five civilians. Two children were also wounded by a mortar in Helfaia town in the same province.
Cities and towns across Syria have frequently come under mortar and rocket fire by the militants since over the past three years.
The Takfiri groups have stepped up their deadly attacks against Syrians as the country is preparing to hold an important presidential election on June 3.
Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since March 2011. Some reports say over 150,000 people have so far been killed and millions of others displaced because of the foreign-backed militancy plaguing Syria.
