Iran has dismissed the interfering allegations of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) with regards to the three Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb.

Iran Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Wednesday that the final statement of the 128th ordinary meeting of the PGCC foreign ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, is meddling in the Islamic Republic’s internal affairs.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes its sovereignty over the Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb,” Afkham stated.

She stressed that all strategies and measures taken on these islands have always been based on the principles of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa have been historically part of Iran, the proof of which can be found in and corroborated by countless historical, legal and geographical documents in Iran and other parts of the world. However, the United Arab Emirates has repeatedly laid claim to the islands.

The spokesperson also dismissed the council’s allegations against Iran’s nuclear energy program.

“These [nuclear] activities are conducted transparently and are in line with international regulations and within the framework of the regulations of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” Afkham said.

She added that Iran’s foreign policy is based on good neighborliness, mutual respect and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

She added that in order to strengthen relations and meet the demands of regional countries, “the administration of the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes friendly talks with its neighboring countries in the Persian Gulf region….”

The United States, Israel and some of their allies falsely claim that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with the US and the European Union using the unfounded allegation as a pretext to impose illegal sanctions on Iran.

Tehran strongly rejects the claim against its nuclear energy program, maintaining that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
