US deceives public opinion to justify war: Syria

The intelligence assessment the US administration presented as evidence that the Syrian government deployed chemical weapons on its own people is baseless and based on “terrorist lies” and “media exaggeration,” a source at the Syrian foreign ministry has said.

A source at the Foreign and Expatriates Ministry told Syria’s state-owned SANA news agency, that any American military action in Syria would only serve the political interests of the United States.

Worries mounted in the region following US intentions to bomb Syria over conflicting reports of an alleged chemical attack that is widely believed to have been committed by Syria militants to open the way for their Western and Arab supporters to attack Syria.

The report also said the Syrian Foreign Ministry was surprised at Washington’s efforts to “deceive its public opinion in such a naive manner.”

In a statement released in tandem with remarks by US Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday, the US government says they assess “with high confidence” that the Syrian government and President Bashar al-Assad in particular were responsible for killing hundreds of people in a chemical weapons attack last week.

The SANA report added that Kerry’s claims are “a desperate attempt to talk the world into accepting the upcoming US aggression.”

Syria has been gripped by deadly unrest since 2011.

According to the United Nations, more than 100,000 people have been killed and a total of 7.8 million of others displaced due to the violence.
