A mortar round hit a bus transporting employees of the Scientific Research Center in Barzeh district on Wednesday, Syria’s official news agency SANA News Agency reported.
The attack comes a day after foreign-backed militants fighting against the Syrian government assassinated two government officials in Rif Dimashq.
Majid Tinawi, mayor of al-Zabadani city in Rif Dimashq, and Ghassan al-Haj Hammoud, member of the National Reconciliation Committee, were shot dead in al-Zabadani on Tuesday after they left a meeting in which they discussed national reconciliation efforts in the area.
Militants have also fired several mortars at an oil refinery in the western Syrian city of Homs, injuring a number of workers. SANA says the mortars hit a worker residential compound.
There are reports of clashes between the Syrian army and militants in several parts of the country, including, Homs, Dara'a, and Aleppo.
The war in Syria started in March 2011, when pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of Western and regional states.
The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history. The West and its regional allies-- Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey -- are supporting the militants operating inside Syria.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said on July 25 that more than 100,000 people have been killed in Syria since the outbreak of foreign-sponsored militancy in the country. Millions of others have also been displaced in the violence.
