The Syrian army has succeeded in clearing vast areas of the old city of Homs of the presence of foreign-backed militants, al-Alam reports.
As the conflict between the Syrian army and terrorist groups continues in Homs, the army forces are advancing in Bab Houd neighborhood and have cleared al-Masoudia School of the terrorists, al-Alam correspondent Rua al-Ali reported on Wednesday.
The army managed to disclose several tunnels used by terrorist militants in Homs.
The army forces have also deployed near Khalid ibn al-Walid mosque in Homs to clear the areas close to the mosque completely.
The foreign-backed militants have fled to al-Sefsafa, Bab al-Seba’a and al-Warsha neighborhoods after receiving heavy losses in al-Khalidiya and Bab Houd, a Syrian army officer said, adding, the terrorists tried to infiltrate into these areas once again, but the army forces managed to kill them.
The Syrian army forces have simultaneously raided terrorists’ strongholds in Jurat al-Shayyah, al-Hamidiya, al-Qosour and areas in al-Qarabis neighborhood in Homs.
Several terrorists have also been killed during heavy clashes with army forces in al-Hosn, al-Zara and Kfar Laha in Rif Homs.
The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of Western and regional states.
The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.
