Syrian army has clashed with foreign-backed militants in the western city of Homs, killing and injuring a number of the militants.

The clashes took place on Monday with the government forces foiling the militants’ attempts to detonate three explosive devices near Um al-Tababir village, official SANA news agency said.

An official source told the Syrian news agency that the militants who were planting the devices were killed in the clashes.

Meanwhile, Syrian soldiers also destroyed the foreign-sponsored militants’ gatherings in several other districts including Bab Hood, Jouret al-Shayyah, al-Hamidieh and al-Warsheh.

Similar clashes erupted in several areas in the capital, Damascus. The Syrian troops killed and injured a number of militants in Adra and Erbin areas and eliminated terrorists and destroyed their weapons and equipment in Douma area.

A tunnel was discovered in Joubar neighborhood of the capital which was equipped with surveillance camera. The Syrian forces also found a number of explosive devices there.

In Aleppo, the Syrian troops destroyed weapons that were being transported by militants in cars from Turkey to Daret Azza.

Syrian forces also launched attacks against the militants in the governorates of Idlib, Daraya, Lattakia, Homs, Daraa, and Aleppo on Sunday and killed a large number of them.

The Syrian army has conducted successful operations against the Takfiri militants over the past weeks.
The conflict in Syria started in March 2011, when pro-reform protests turned into a massive insurgency following the intervention of Western and regional states.

The unrest, which took in terrorist groups from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, has transpired as one of the bloodiest conflicts in recent history.

As the foreign-backed insurgency in Syria continues without an end in sight, the US government has boosted its political and military support to Takfiri extremists.

Washington has remained indifferent about warnings by Russia and other world powers about the consequences of arming militant groups.
