Commander of the extremist militants loyal to Radical Salafist sheikh Ahmad al-Assir has been killed in clashes with the Lebanese army in southern Lebanon, al-Alam reports.
According to our correspondent, commander of al-Assir militants was killed on Monday while Ahmad al-Assir’s brother was reported to be wounded in the fighting.
Heavy clashes erupted a day earlier in southern city of Sidon after Lebanese army patrols came under attack by followers of al-Assir.
Our reporter said there were a number of armed men who surrendered themselves to the army.
At least 20 army soldiers have been killed in the clashes which are still going on.
