Palestinians do not accept temporary borders

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas says Palestinians will not accept a state with temporary borders.

"Temporary borders will not end the conflict, they will only prolong it, "Abbas said when addressing the World Economic Forum on Sunday held in Jordan in the presence of Israeli regime president Shimon Peres and US Secretary of State John Kerry.

The Palestinians want the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, he said, calling on Israel to adopt the Arab Peace Initiative put forward by Saudi Arabia in 2002 .

The peace initiative offered normal ties with the Arab countries for Israel in return for its withdrawal from territories it occupied during bloody days of war in 1967.

However Hamas was wary of the deal because it violated Palestinians’ rights and mostly due to uncertainties about Israel to be committed to the agreements.

On May 1st, Qatar’s prime minister said Arab nations are ready to be flexible with their 2002 peace plan with Israel, claiming the Palestinians and Israelis could trade land rather than conform exactly to the 1967 borders.

The new offer, which appealed Israel, was widely opposed by Hamas since it defines a ceasefire border with the lands under Israeli occupation instead of setting a clear border for Palestinians future state. Under the new deal Israel does not leave the occupied territories also, which increases fears of Israeli violations to any future agreements.

The June 1967 Israeli-Arab War resulted in a vast expansion of the Zionist colonial project in Palestine, a seizure of territory that much of the world recognizes as an illegal occupation.

Huge sums of money were transferred on a regular basis from the US government to fund occupation infrastructure and ensure the economic stability of the colonial enterprise.

Israel fears formation of a Palestinian state because it will give Palestinians the right to sue the regime for its numerous war crimes in the International Criminal Court.
