Speaking to al-Alam on Tuesday, Khalaf al-Miftah said former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan’s six point plan for solving the crisis is accepted by the Syrian government because it calls for a stop to the violence and solving the problem with no foreign interference.

The Kofi Annan peace plan for Syria or the six-point peace plan for Syria, launched in February 2012, is considered the most serious international attempt to resolve the Syrian civil war diplomatically.

Annan’s plan for a ceasefire, which faced international deadlock, was a compromise; it called for a Syrian-led political dialogue aimed at democratic reform without demanding the departure of President Bashar al-Assad, the precondition then set by the opposition.

The Syrian official said any solution that ignores even one group of the Syrian people cannot be a solution and will be problematic instead.

Speaking on recent US agreements with Russia for finding a way out of the crisis in Syria, al-Miftah said, “US does not believe in solving the problem.”

“They only express a view in Moscow to appeal Russian officials and then they say contrary things somewhere else to appeal those who oppose the Syrian government,” he added.

He said proposals should also be in line with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s plan which was announced on January 6th and called for a dialogue with the opposition “who have not betrayed the country”.
