Saudi regime has called on Egypt to exclude Iran from future negotiations over the Syrian crisis as part of the contact group, Al-Alam News Channel reported.

Al-Alam quoted Arab diplomatic sources as saying that Saudi Arabia welcomes any attempts to resolve the crisis in Syria provided that Iran is excluded from the contact group.

Riyadh is opposed to Iran’s participation in negotiations regarding the crisis in Syria, said the report.

Meanwhile, Saudi regime has rejected an Egyptian offer to revive the Cairo plan for putting an end to civil war in Syria, according to informed sources.

“Tehran’s exclusion from the Egypt’s plan is not helpful, since Iran enjoys a great influence on Bashar al-Assad’s government and it can be used as an indirect contact channel with Syria.”

Egypt emphasized that Iran is part of the solution to the issue but the Persian Gulf littoral Arab states think it convolutes the matters and consider it as the main driving force against the so-called Syrian revolution, the sources said.

A few days ago, an Egyptian diplomatic source reported that the new Cairo plan is underway to revive the quartet committee in order to solve the Syrian crisis and further attempts in this regard.

The meeting of ministers will be held in Cairo within the next few weeks with the aim of reviving Mohammed Morsi’s innovative plan of solving the Syrian crisis, the source said.

Resorting to what Moaz al-Khatib, the ex-president of the Syria’s national opposition coalition, declared about their readiness for talks to achieve a transitional government, Cairo tries to offer a plan in a bid to take more efforts in ceasing bloodsheds in Syria and reviving Egypt’s innovative plan, the source noted.

“We try to develop this concept and turn the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the UN-Arab League envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi into three parties to monitor and guarantee the success of the Cairo plan and its employment,” the source added.

The source said that presently, and particularly after Morsi’s visit to Russia and the trip of the Egyptian delegation, comprising Morsi’s head of the office Essam al-Haddad and his chief of staff Rifaa al-Tahtawi to Iran, Cairo is investigating some plans.

The last two trips are connected to Egypt’s attempts regarding the Syrian case. Morsi’s visit to Russia, in particular, showed that there exists the possibility to achieve a political solution to the crisis in Syria, the Egyptian sources pointed out.
