Al-Alam correspondent who was present at the scene said on Saturday that the al-Azizia district which was a key nest for terrorists used for dispatching armed groups, especially al-Nusra Front affiliated gangs, was successfully cleared.

Syrian army has been gaining considerable achievements in recent days’ operations, taking control of several key regions and freeing them from terrorist groups.

According to Al-Alam reporter, 80 percent of the al-Qusayr region in Homs province is now calm and security is restored in all villages in the cleared region.

The army also tightened its grip over the militants in towns of al-Abbadeh and Tall Ghreqeh in the Eastern Ghouta in Damascus countryside, according to Syrian SANA news agency report on Saturday. Several militants were killed in this operation and army gained full control over the region.

Syria has been struggling with a US-backed insurgency which began in March 2011 as a protesting movement but turned to be a cover for terrorist groups including al-Qaeda and al-Nusra Front.

Fallowing Syrian army's successful operations in recent months, US government officials said that the White House was considering equiping the rebels with more arms.
