“This crisis has no military solution,” Haytham Manna emphasized in a press conference on Tuesday. “We are oscillating between becoming another Somalia and adopting a political solution. This is why we account the regime responsible for choosing to copy Algeria’s solution for Syria. However, it will not succeed and the opposition will also fail in achieving a military solution.”

He claimed that “the Syrian regime has not taken any serious steps towards negotiations; instead, it agrees with whatever is offered, but when it comes to action, the agreements are not carried out.”

“If serious pressure is not exerted from the regime’s friends, such as Russia, China, and Iran in order to force Syria to enter new negotiations to rescue those who have not yet shed Syrian blood, the Syrian regime will not make painful and essential concessions for a democratic transition,” Haytham Manna asserted.

He rated the extension of the mission of the United Nations’ and the Arab League’s joint envoy Lakhdar Brahimi as important and stressed that “I believe that Bashar al-Assad’s fall will not put an end to violence in this country; Rather, his violent fall will intensify violence.”

Manna deemed the Syrian regime and the Syrian opposition equally responsible for the present situation of the Syrian crisis.
