The Israeli regime has authorized drilling for oil on the occupied Golan Heights in a move that will draw international protest.

A license for launching the controversial project had been issued to US-Israeli energy company Genie, headed by Effie Eitam, a Zionist settler and former hardline rightwing minister of the regime.

The Genie shareholders include media mogul Rupert Murdoch while Republican former US vice president Dick Cheney is an advisor to the company.

The Zionist regime occupied the Golan Heights, also known as Syrian heights, in the 1967 and annexed it in 1981, in a move never recognized by the international community.

The move could cause an international row, given the Golan's status as occupied Syrian territory under international law.
