Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the Zionist regime has been imposed on the region in order to enable the Westerners to sow dissension among regional countries.

“This regime has been imposed on the region so that the Westerners can sell their weapons and cause dissension among us,” Ahmadinejad, who is in Cairo to attend the 12th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), said in an interview with the Egyptian state-run Nile TV on Wednesday.

In response to a question about Israel’s threats of an attack against Iran, the Iranian President noted that the Islamic Republic has no fear of any threats even from the supporters of the Israeli regime.

President Ahmadinejad further called on regional countries to address their woes by relying on themselves “because arrogant powers seek to dominate the region’s oil, energy, mines and wealth.”

Ahmadinejad said the US administration has become weaker compared to 20 years ago and is currently facing many problems. He also noted that capitalism is now collapsing “in theoretical and practical terms.”

He stated that Western powers are incapable of properly understanding and analyzing issues pertaining to Iran, emphasizing, “They seek to create dissension through lies and deceit.”

The Iranian chief executive further highlighted the significance of the ties between Iran and Egypt, saying mutual relations would be beneficial to the two countries’ people, all Muslim nations and the entire region.

Regional equations have changed and Tehran-Cairo ties would be beneficial to the two countries, he pointed out.

Ahmadinejad praised the great capabilities of Iran and Egypt to expand relations in the fields of science, technology and industries, stressing that Tehran places no obstacle in the way of enhanced cooperation with Cairo.

He expressed Iran’s complete readiness to bolster cooperation with Egypt in all sectors, saying Iran and Egypt are two independent and great countries and their people would determine their own fate.

Pointing to the ongoing unrest in Syria, the Iranian President said Tehran would make efforts to promote understanding between the Syrian government and opposition and hold free elections in the crisis-stricken country to help its people decide for themselves.

“We are sad about the ongoing conditions in Syria because it makes no difference who gets killed. Both sides are Syrians,” he added.
