Iraqi military forces said Thursday that they have retaken the desert town of Rutbah from the Islamic State (ISIS, ISIL, IS And Daesh) after a two-day battle during which commanders saw limited resistance from the terrorist militants.
The Iraqi flag has been raised over the local council building in the town, the Iraqi military said in a statement.
Lying about 240 miles west of Baghdad deep in the desert, Rutbah sits on transit routes to Jordan and Syria.
Meanwhile ISIS snipers are targeting humanitarian corridors established by Iraqi security forces to relieve suffering in the ISIS-held city of Fallujah.
Iraqi forces had tried to set up three corridors, but ISIS snipers target civilians to preventing them fleeing people from city. ISIS use people as humanitarian sheild.
ISIS terrorists took control of Fallujah in early 2014 and it later became an ISIS stronghold.
