Sadr had ordered his armed followers to withdraw on Wednesday from the streets of Baghdad districts that have been hit by deadly bombings claimed by Islamic State (ISIS , ISIL , IS and Daesh), Reuters reports.
The Peace Brigades had deployed hundreds of militiamen in Sadr City and five other mainly Shiite areas of the capital after Sadr accused the government of failing to prevent the attacks by the hardline Sunni group.
At least 77 people were killed and more than 140 wounded by three bombings in Baghdad on Tuesday (May 17).
Witnesses said Saraya al-Salam had pulled out of the streets of Sadr City overnight on Tuesday.
On Thursday, they were back on the streets, searching every pedestrian carrying a bag, checking vehicles and regulating traffic, but did not carry any weapons.
