A senior Russian official has hailed Iran’s role in the fight against terrorism in various countries, saying Moscow seeks more communication and interaction with Iran over the battle against terror.

“Moscow hails Tehran’s valuable share in fighting international terrorism,” said Chairman of Russia’s State Duma Sergey Naryshkin on Wednesday.

The Russian top legislator, who was meeting Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Moscow, said Iran and Russia share a common stance on an array of issues, adding that Iran is a “trusted and close” partner for Russia in the Middle East.

Naryshkin also elaborated on the developments in Syria where Russia has been assisting the Syrian government in battling Takfiri terrorists, saying that Russia is determined to continue its fight against terror groups like Daesh and the al-Nusra Front “to the very end.”

He said, however, that the lasting solution to the crises in the Middle East would be of a political nature and not a military one.

The Iranian parliament speaker, for his part, said Iran views Russia as a stabilizing force in the region, adding that Tehran will continue to assist Moscow in this regard.

Larijani also hailed some key visits by top Russian officials to Tehran over the past years, including one by Russian President Vladimir Putin in November 2015, saying those visits have opened the way for further cooperation between the two countries.

Iran’s top lawmaker said plans are underway for using Russia’s expertise in building two nuclear power plants in Iran, while calling for increased trade and agricultural exchanges between the Islamic Republic and the Russian Federation.

Larijani is in Moscow to attend the first conference of the Eurasian states’ parliament speakers, titled Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in the Interests of Joint Prosperity of the Counties in the Eurasian Region in the 21st Century. The meeting which opened on Tuesday has seen speakers from 19 countries in attendance, Press TV reported.
