Meeting with Iranian media representatives at the Iranian embassy in Berlin, Amir Abdollahian said, 'We have always stressed that we are welcoming a dialogue with Riyadh.'
'We are welcoming cooperation in fighting terrorism and extremism, but what is important is that our Saudi friends have to distance themselves from pursuing a policy based on resorting to force and military actions in the crisis hotspots of the region,' Amir Abdollahian added. The Iranian diplomat urged Saudi Arabia to pursue 'a reasonable and wise' policy.
'We want Saudi Arabia to play a constructive role in the political resolution of the regional crises,' Amir Abdollahian insisted. Amir Abdollahian pointed out that unlike previous Saudi leaders, the new leadership is pursuing a policy resorting to force and military actions.
He warned Riyadh's policy in Yemen is also endangering Saudi Arabia's security. He reiterated the wrong behavior by Saudi Arabia will have negative repercussions in the region. Asked by IRNA about the deteriorating situation in war-stricken Yemen, Amir Abdollahian called for 'an end to Saudi aggression' and the establishment of an immediate ceasefire. He linked Yemen's stabilization process to Riyadh's decision to rectify its behavior and whether it wants to distance itself from the wrong policy of resorting to force.
Amir Abdollahian's three-day visit to Berlin included top-level talks with German chancellery and foreign ministry officials, including Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Lebanon and combating terrorism and extremism in the Middle East and North Africa.
