“Today, what’s taking place in the Muslim world, particularly in Syria, is a heart-wrenching tragedy for which a solution should be found by religious and political leaders of the Muslim world through unity and rapport,” said Larijani at a Monday meeting with Omani Parliament Speaker Sheikh Khalid bin Hilal al-Mawali on the sidelines of the 9th Islamic Inter-Parliamentary Union (IIPU) Meeting in Tehran.
On Saturday, negotiations between the Syrian government and the Western-backed opposition ended without finding a way to resolve the conflict, which has dragged on for nearly three years.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani praised Iran-Oman ties at diplomatic and parliamentary levels and called for further expansion of bilateral relations in different economic and cultural spheres.
He pointed to the great investment potential for both Iran and Oman, expressing Majlis’ support for any joint ventures between the two countries.
The Omani parliament speaker, for his part, lauded Iran as an important Middle Eastern power and underlined Muscat’s resolve to promote its relations with Tehran, particularly in economic areas.
