European governments and satellite companies have attacked Al-Alam , Press TV and other Iranian satellite channels since January 2012. The channels have been taken off air in several Western countries, including Britain, France, Germany and Spain.
The European communications satellite service provider Intelsat stopped the broadcast of Iranian channels under the pretext of “abiding by” the illegal sanctions against Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) Ezzatollah Zarghami.
The Palestinian Institute for Communication and Development (PICD) has called for the lifting of the ban on the Iranian channels.
“Targeting the Iranian channels is against the freedom of press and it must not be tolerated,” Sabbah added.
Samir Zaqout of Al Mezan Center for Human Rights also said that those who target a news channel for its coverage “are simply biased organizations.”
Ahmed Almudallal, a ranking member of Palestinian movement Islamic Jihad, told Al Alam that the United States does not want to allow a television channel like Iran’s satellite Arabic news network to broadcast outside the framework of the West’s mainstream media and illustrate the role of resistance.
Meanwhile, Jameel Mozhar of the central committee of the People’s Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said that al-Alam television conveys the message of resistance in the region, which the United States and the Israeli regime cannot tolerate.
The Palestinian Non-Governmental Organizations Network (PNGO) has also slammed the renewed attacks on the Iranian media.
Amjad Shawa, with the PNGO, said the ban on the Iranian channels was a great violation of the rights of people to have free access to information.
