An official at the Iranian National Carpet Center said the Islamic Republic has exported $270 million worth of hand-woven carpets during the eight months of the current calendar year (started March 21).

(IRNA) -- Speaking in a carpet exhibition in northwestern province of Qazvin, Deputy Head of Iran's Carpet Center for Marketing Mohammad Mehdi Farshchi said the figure was 31 percent higher compared to the same period the previous year.

Referring to the role of 2015 nuclear deal in increasing the exports of hand-woven carpets, he said the reinforcement of political relations will flourish Iran's foreign trade.

About $290 million worth of hand-woven carpets was exported last year, he added. 'The Iranian hand-woven carpets were mainly exported to 29 destinations, including 13 Asian, 11 European and four American countries.'

Exports to Asian countries account for $140 million of Iran's hand-woven carpets, he said.
