(MNA) -- Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani held talks with Lassina Zerbo, the Executive Secretary of the CTBTO, on the sidelines of the 137th IPU Assembly in St. Petersburg on Monday.

“We are a member of the IAEA and have accepted certain commitments under the nuclear deal,” Larijani said at the meeting. “We have also paid a high price during the course of nuclear negotiations, so if Trump’s inappropriate attitude is going to prevent us from benefiting from the agreement and only pay costs, we will definitely reconsider [our stance on JCPOA].”

He went on to add, “the fatwa of the Iranian Leader is not only on the prohibition of the use of nuclear weapons, but the use of any weapon of mass destruction, including biological and chemical weapons.”

Larijani further referred to the IAEA’s confirmation of Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA, saying it is within the responsibilities of the Agency to decide on Iran’s compliance not President Trump and the US Congress.

Lassina Zerbo, for his part, hailed Iran’s positive and constructive position on commitment to the nuclear deal, adding “the JCPOA is the most significant agreement that has been achieved in the last ten years, and all sides to the deal must make efforts to preserve it.”
